Why this? Why Now?

After all that has been written over these last few millennia, cosmologists, astronomers and astrophysicists are confronting the prospect of new data that may either vindicate their ideas or refute them entirely. They are placing their bets on the table, and with them their reputations. Am I convinced of my correctness? No, absolutely not. But I do think that the model I propose has much to offer. It fits the data, is falsifiable, parsimonious, and has explanatory and predictive power. The key is the predictive power. It is the currency that I use for the bet I am placing. These are exciting times to be alive!

The Logical Conclusion

A Tale of the Dangerous Slippery Slope of Extrapolation

Long ago in a distant land
A scribe sat with stylus in hand
Marveling over his observations
And all of their implications.

He had discovered that the population
Of his great nation
Had been increasing regularly
And even geometrically.

A friend of his had suggested
(and his suggestion was uncontested)
That reversing the population trend
Could lead to only one possible end.

"At first there were only two!"
A fact that had hitherto
Escaped the most brilliant minds
Of all humanity to that time.

Musing to himself on the pair's first mating
After what must have been Divine Creating
That between her yin and his yang
There must have been quite a big bang.
